A Storied Heritage
Opening on Christmas Day in 1930, the Historic Fox Theater was envisioned by architect S. Charles Lee as an escape into luxury during the Great Depression.
From surviving the destructive 1952 Kern County earthquake to overcoming near-demolition in the 1980s, the theater owes its survival to the community. In 1994, the FOX Theater Foundation restored its glorious hand-painted interiors, brilliant chandeliers, and marquee—ensuring it remains a vibrant stage for live art today.
